Orca Realty announces that Managing Broker Benson Wang has been appointed to the British Columbia Financial Services Authority (BCFSA) Real Estate Roundtable for the 2026–2027 term.
The appointment follows BCFSA’s application and selection process for membership on the Roundtable, an advisory group that provides industry perspectives and feedback on matters affecting British Columbia’s real estate sector.
What Is the BCFSA?
The British Columbia Financial Services Authority (BCFSA) is the Crown agency responsible for regulating and supervising British Columbia’s financial services sector. Its mandate covers a broad and consequential portfolio, including:
- Real estate professionals (trading services, rental property management, and strata management)
- Mortgage brokers
- Credit unions and trusts
- Insurance providers
- Pension plans
BCFSA’s overarching goal is to instill public confidence in the financial services sector by safeguarding consumers — buyers, sellers, tenants, depositors, policyholders, and pension plan members — while allowing the industry to operate competitively and responsibly. For real estate professionals and the public alike, BCFSA sets the standards, enforces compliance, and shapes the regulatory environment under which every brokerage in the province operates.
If you are a homeowner, investor, landlord, or tenant in BC, BCFSA is the body whose policies directly influence how transactions are conducted, how licensees are held accountable, and how your interests are protected.
What Is the BCFSA Real Estate Roundtable?
The BCFSA Real Estate Roundtable is a formal advisory group convened annually by BCFSA to gather frontline industry perspectives from senior real estate leaders across British Columbia. Roundtable members participate in structured discussions to:
- Identify emerging issues, trends, and business practices in BC’s real estate sector
- Provide evidence-informed insights from across trading services, rental property management, and strata management
- Contribute expert knowledge and practical experience to inform BCFSA’s policy development
- Offer feedback on regulatory initiatives and the BCFSA Regulatory Roadmap
Appointments are made through an open, transparent, and merit-based application process, with members chosen for their strategic knowledge, senior-level experience, and ability to reflect the diversity of BC’s real estate services industry — across licensing categories, regions, and brokerage sizes. Being selected is, in itself, a meaningful endorsement.
A Notably Selective Appointment
The original Roundtable structure provided for just ten members province-wide, distributed across three streams:
- 6 Trading Services representatives (including 2 commercial specialists)
- 2 Rental Property Management representatives
- 2 Strata Management representatives
For the 2026–2027 term, BCFSA expanded the Roundtable to 16 members to reflect the increasing complexity of BC’s real estate landscape. Even with this expansion, selection remained highly competitive — appointed members represent only a small fraction of licensed real estate professionals across the province. That Benson was chosen from among thousands of eligible licensees makes this recognition all the more meaningful.
