Do you ever notice how busy everyone is in today’s world? Busy..busy..busy! Despite all the technology we have and the conveniences of modern day life, we seem busier than ever before. Exercising and working out is something we keep talking about, but seriously who has the time? With work, kids, lunches, dinners, cleaning, work, kids, commuting to work, where do we find the time? The first thing to remember is, it’s not about how much time you spend on exercising, it’s the type of exercises you are doing and when you are doing them. Utilize moments during the day to do simple things like take the stairs at work instead of the elevator; better yet, buy a bike and bike back and forth to your job. You will be amazed at how fast the weight drops off and you will be saving tons of money in gas and parking. If you take the bus, jump off 2 or 3 stops before your own and walk the rest of the way.
One thing I did, that helped me manage my workout, was to get up an hour earlier every week day. I would start my day with a long 60 minute walk before my shower. It was hard to do to start with, as I missed that extra hour of sleep, but after the first week, it became a routine and now I really look forward to my morning walk. You will be surprised how many other walkers you will see on the trail. It is a great way to start the day!
There are several different exercises you can do in the office that require a minimal amount of time. Sit on the edge of the chair and keep the palms of your hands on the seat of the chair as you lower your body slowly down and then back up. Do however many reps feel comfortable for you and in a short period of time you will see the difference in the tone of your arms. It’s hard to have a job where you sit all day long so take the time to stretch a few minutes every hour or so. At lunch, take a short walk around the block and you will feel energized and you will tackle your work with more effort and enthusiasm.
