With Winter almost behind us and Spring around the corner it is a great time to start brightening up your home by adding some colour and new decorating ideas. Head to South Granville and you will find inspiration on how to make your home feel like it’s had a mini reno without picking up a drill or even touching a hammer. West Broadway is also a great destination for shopping and then why not stop for a lunch break in one of the fantastic restaurants in the area.
If you are renting a condo in Kerrisdale purchase some new plants and then showcase them in beautifully painted flower planters. I even found that by purchasing a few new vases and accessories for my freshly cut flowers it made my kitchen pop with colour. There are many options for stones or coloured beads that you can also purchase and add to a vase that will give your floral arrangement a clean and fun new look. Tulips or gerberas are a couple of my favourites as the colour options are endless. Plus who doesn’t like fresh flowers?
I found that by doing something simple like purchasing new candles for my candle holders inspired me to go a step further. The colour and design options are amazing and are many come uniquely scented. I personally like the apple cinnamon version that makes the home smell as though I might have been baking. Flameless candles are another excellent option as they are available as indoor or outdoor, come in great designs and colours and can even be scented. I love the smell of vanilla or coconut lime! Flameless candles are also great if you have small children or pets as you can turn them on and not worry and they often come with timers. How easy can it get? Outdoor flameless candles give your back yard entertaining area or patio a great ambiance on any warm evening if you are just reading a book or having friends over for a bbq. By changing something small like the colour of your candles or even by changing those towels in your bathroom to a bright orange or turquoise blue you can change the entire feeling of the room. Add a new shower curtain and you will stand back and be amazed by the results.
Many home decor magazines are great ways to inspire you to upgrade the look of your home. They will tell you the current colour trends for the season, which can encourage anyone to add a splash of colour to their home. Magazines are a great source for inspiration and can give you new ideas on how to improve the look of your home. I purchase a mirror for one of my smaller rooms after I read that it can make the room look larger and brighten it up. It works! Mirrors can be very design oriented and come in many different sizes and shapes that will give the room a more open feel. Want to change the look of your bedroom? Purchase a new duvet cover, add some new toss pillows or change the curtains to venetian blinds. I did this in my home and you wouldn’t believe how it transformed. I even purchased a couple of extra toss pillows for my beige armchair in the corner to incorporate the new look throughout the room. Go a step further and re-upholster a few pieces of furniture that are starting to look tired. It will change the look of your most popular furniture pieces.
