Time to De-Clutter your rental home? 2 Words …Garage Sale!

North Shore renters…This is a great time of the year to start thinking about spring cleaning and how to organize and de-clutter your home. Get rid of all those items that have been collecting dust over the winter or the clothing that you just don’t ever seem to wear. What better way to get rid of your junk than to hold a garage sale! It’s also a great way to give back to your community. What is the best way to make your garage sale a big success? Be organized! Go through items that you no longer need and divide them into categories. This will make it easier for you to set up your sale. Have everything ready the night before as there are always going to be early birds that will show up before the time you’ve advertised. Treat your sale like a mini shop. Merchandise items accordingly to make it easy for people to look through them. Also have a bin for odds and ends and have it price pointed. Purchase stickers to price all items to help you when your sale starts to get busy and then shoppers don’t have to ask. It is also a good idea to have bags on hand for small items that are sold or for if people purchase multiple items.

Advertise your event! Make sure people know about your garage sale and make sure they are given enough notice. Advertise your sale ahead of time to give people a chance to mark it on their calendars.Weekends are usually best but try not to hold your sale over a long weekend to ensure a good turnout as this is when many people might be planning to go away. Weather can also be an issue so ensure that you have a backup plan in case it rains. If you plan ahead of time it can be difficult to ensure that it will be a sunny day for your sale. But living in Vancouver rain is a good bet, so click on this link to be prepared  if it does rain.  Another great idea is to invite your neighbours, friends and family to join your sale as well. If you can get a large group of people together it’s a great opportunity to make it an even larger garage sale which will get you a bigger turnout. Plus it’s a great way to meet some of your neighbours. What can you do if everything doesn’t sell? Donate it! There are many local charities or churches that are always happy to take donations. If you don’t know any local charaties try this list http://www.charity-charities.org/Canada-charities/Vancouver-BC.html I’m sure you will find the perfect one happy to take your items off your hands. I love renting a home in North Vancouver because it is such a family community. I also love garage sales which are plentiful this time of the year. It’s a great way to meet the neighbours!
